A recent Nielsen BookData report shows over half of Australian audio consumers once again stated they have increased their listening in the past 5 years. The latest research reveals Spotify has gained traction with their foray into audiobooks, with one in two Australian audiobook consumers using this platform in 2024, and a heavy lean towards younger and female audiobook consumers.
The Australian audiobook market continues to mature, with 2 in 5 audiobook consumers first trying audiobooks in the past 12 months, driven by curiosity and an increasing desire to save time or allow for multi-tasking (19% in 2022 v 21% in 2024), with multi-tasking rising in rank in 2022 and once again in 2024. Newer audiobook consumers were influenced to listen by advertising, wanting a specific title and celebrity narrators.
